Story
AARON GLICK came to New York from Indiana. He is a theatre producer, which means he's creative and bossy. He loves cereal, reality cooking competitions, and murder mysteries. His favorite movie is Bob Fosse's All That Jazz.
Friend Aaron!
NICK COBURN came to New York from New Hampshire. He is an interactive designer by day, but a rapper and writer by night. He loves cheese plates and rhyme schemes. He has seen all of AFI's 100 Greatest American Films.
Friend Nick!
In October of 2011, Aaron was doing what he does best (producing a musical) at the McGinn-Cazale Theatre on 76th and Broadway. Nick, the literary associate at a musical theatre festival, was doing what he does best (standing in a stairwell looking slightly lost). Aaron marched up and introduced himself.
Over the next two months, their paths crossed repeatedly. In the bathroom line waiting to see a musical starring Andrea McArdle. The check-in table at a theatre gala. A weird after-party where they accidentally stumbled into Jennifer Damiano celebrating her final performance in Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark. They ignored the signs.
On New Year's Eve, Aaron and his friends wandered into a West Village bar called Pieces. Pieces is the last place anyone should spend New Year's Eve. But Nick was there with his friends, too. This time, Aaron made sure to ask for Nick's number. They went on their first date a few days later: dinner at a vegetarian restaurant (Aaron insisted), followed, appropriately, by a screening of The Artist at the Angelika Film Center.
It's been nearly six years since that night. They've been on adventures across the country and even overseas. They've fought about things like whether or not Once should've won Best Musical over Newsies. They've also agreed on things, like beet pasta and Cate Blanchett. They've adopted a crazy, patch-eyed pit bull named Romeo. He's the worst. But he's also the best.
You can read all about their unexpected Election Night engagement in an Elle article here. Aaron talks for most of it, and that's pretty indicative of their relationship. Nick got his revenge by making this website. In summary: they are tired of haters and ready to share their love with the world.
Wedding
8 • 18 • 2017
The Deal: We will be getting married at City Hall early on Friday, August 18. It will be casual, simple, and small. While we would love to have everyone there, the space will not be able to accommodate more than our immediate families. That evening, from 9pm to midnight, we are excited to see everyone at The Knitting Factory in Brooklyn to celebrate. Picture the best cocktail party you've never been to, then picture it being a half-Jewish gay wedding.
Directions: The Knitting Factory is located at 361 Metropolitan Avenue, Brooklyn, NY. It's a 4 minute walk from the L/G Train (Lorimer-Metropolitan) and a 7 minute walk from the L Train (Bedford Ave). Click here for more detailed directions.
Dress: Dress comfortably for dancing! It'll be summer and you'll be at a concert venue, so please do not feel obligated to wear a suit. We'll wear jackets but we're already excited about taking them off. Your nice summer clothes will be fine.
Dinner and Drinks: We will have plenty of delicious comfort food but will not be serving a sit-down dinner, so we recommend you eat a small meal before you come! The drinking will be endless and likely excessive.
Dog: We are well aware that our dog Romeo is more loved than we are. Unfortunately, he is not allowed in our venue.
NYC
New York City is our home and we are so happy to share it with you (many for the first time!).
Hotels: We have a special $219/night rate at the brand new James New York NoMad on 29th and Madison, available for August 17–20. For summer in Manhattan, this deal is stellar. If you would like to stay there, please contact Julie at 646-472-3641 or jegli@jameshotels.com and mention the Coburn/Glick Wedding Block.
Broadway: You should absolutely see a show while you are in the city. It's our favorite thing to do. Aaron's current recommendations are War Paint and Wicked. Nick's current recommendations are Dear Evan Hansen and Wicked.
Sightseeing: Summer in the city! We recommend you walk The High Line, stroll through Central Park, and wander Little Italy.
Restaurants: Our current midtown restaurant recommendations are 44 1/2 (that's where Aaron asked Nick to be his boyfriend) and Vynl (sometimes you need to use a Beyoncé-themed bathroom).
We have plenty of other recommendations for shows, restaurants, and sightseeing. Please contact Glickipedia for specifics.
